[Tadokoro doesn't reply, but his silence speaks for him: he'll see Makishima when he arrives. Even though it'll take him a few minutes to get there, Tadokoro decides it's time for a break anyway. He wastes his time wiping down the counter, doublechecking their back inventory, and washing his hands twice just to keep himself busy.
...When he doesn't see Makishima behind him, he squirts soap on his hands and starts round three.]
[Even though he should make an attempt to be prompt, Makishima ends up just a couple minutes late. The anxiety as he gets closer and closer to Honeybee gets the better of him and slows him down, and while the temptation to take detours and find excuses for arriving so late pop up here and there, he stays on his usual course.
When he arrives, he locks up his bike at the front and goes straight in, trying to avoid anyone he might know so he can make this meeting as quick as possible. However, even as he makes it to the kitchen and catches a glance at Tadokoro, Makishima can't find his voice in order to get his attention. What if he doesn't even want to look at him? Just watching his back as he works at the sink gives Maki visions of things he honestly shouldn't have done, and it sends a little fearful shiver down his spine.
He's such a terrible friend. How will Tadokoro even forgive him? Raising a hand hesitantly, Maki finally announces his presence by knocking on the wall loud enough for Tadokoro to hear, and he takes a few slow steps forward.]
[Just as he starts scrubbing at his hands, wondering if they'll ever actually be clean enough for him to stop, he hears the knock and glances over his shoulder. Ah... Makishima, there already. Tadokoro shoots him a smile, lifting one suds-covered hand in greeting.]
Gimme just a sec, let me wash this off.
[And not start round four. He's sure his hands will smell wonderful for their entire chat, at least. Sticking them under the sink, he just begins washing off the soap as quickly as possible, then turns the faucet off and grabs for a towel. He turns around at that moment.
And it's then that he realizes how open their kitchen truly is. That and all of the memories of their last encounter in there together come rushing through his mind, and he realizes this is the last place they need to have any sort of talk. But that's alright; they can move. There's still that alley-space towards the back, where they'd spoken before; it's probably a better choice. Safer in any case, and more private.]
[That smile itself is almost enough to ease the tension in the air, but Makishima doesn't cover the distance between them and just stays right where he is. Somehow he can't trust himself to get anywhere near Tadokoro even though he knows there's no way he'd do anything like what he'd done a few days ago. All he does is watch him quietly and wait until Tadokoro decides on what they should do, and when he directs him toward the back, he follows gladly.
Makishima lets go of a breath he hadn't known he'd been holding. He's actually glad not to stand in the kitchen for much longer and appreciates the move to another location. Someone could easily walk in on them and it's hard not to remember the inappropriate things that went on in there, so he walks a little hurriedly with his hands in his pockets, eyes directed down at the ground and only occasionally glancing up to follow Tadokoro's back.
Tadokoro's being so calm and reasonable, and he envies him a lot right now. Then again, he wasn't the one that did anything wrong.]
[Makishima's hesitating; Tadokoro can already tell by his body language and the fact that his friend seems even more withdrawn than usual. It makes sense, given the situation, but there's no need for it. He just isn't sure how to tell him without making it too awkward... So he finds himself being quiet too as he leads the way. The echoing of lighter footsteps is the only thing assuring him that Makishima is still behind him, and once they reach the back, Tadokoro opens the door, slipping out and keeping it open for his friend.]
[Makishima almost doesn't notice that Tadokoro has opened the door for him until he just walks right on through it, and he darts his head up, prepared to give him an instinctual thank you, but when he looks at his face and suddenly ends up recalling the memory of kissing him, Makishima just turns his head away and rushes right on through.
While he doesn't know what exactly he should say, he at least knows what he should start with.]
I'm sorry. For what happened. --I mean, obviously I'm apologizing for that. I don't know what I was thinking. ...or, I guess I knew what I was thinking, but I couldn't stop. I still don't know why I did those things-- [Makishima tries to turn around to look at him once more but all he thinks about is groping him and saying suggestive things and okay he's going to turn around again, his face is red.]
I-I really didn't mean it! I wouldn't do those kinds of things with you, Tadokorocchi-- [Wait, is that an insult? He's not trying to insult him or anything.] I'm not saying you're ugly or anything, but you know I'm-- we're just friends, and I...
[Don't even think about Toudou right now, it just makes him feel even more guilty. God, he kisses his best friend but he hasn't even kissed the person who likes him. And he's complimenting him. Is he being creepy? He's totally being creepy.]
S-sorry, I'm-- this is weird. I'm saying stupid things, sorry. You're uncomfortable, right? If you want me to go then I'll go, I just wanted to say sorry.
[Honestly, Tadokoro wasn't expecting any of this. But he can tell Makishima's nerves are getting the better of him, and honestly, if he hadn't braced himself for half of this before Makishima walked in, he'd be pretty freaked out himself.
But he listens quietly, though he finds himself smiling the more Makishima goes.
Yeah, what he did was definitely playing on some really awful lines, but they were best friends, weren't they? What's an awkward kiss or grope or two between friends?]
It was the roses. It's alright, Makishima.
[Reaching over, he sets a hand on Makishima's shoulder, giving him a hefty pat.] You shouldn't wanna do anything with me anyway, you've got a boyfriend.
I'm sorry too, y'know? For, uh. [And with that, he looks away, trying to keep his grin up despite the fact that he's growing more uncomfortable just thinking about it. And his chest tightens strangely and he doesn't like it.] Locking you in the closet and running off like that. I should've stayed but... y'know. it was weird.
[When Tadokoro's pat comes, Makishima feels a mixture of relief as well as concerning discomfort, but he doesn't move away or brush him off. It's disappointing to think that something as normal as Tadokoro's usual friendly nature could make him uneasy, but thankfully the comment about Toudou makes it easy to ignore the feeling as his face flushes in color for a moment and he turns around to face him, reaching out to give Tadokoro a light playful punch on the shoulder as he looks away.]
Toudou's not my boyfriend. [Though considering the date they ended up having and the things he did and said with him, it's hard to believe that statement. Now isn't the time to handle that though. One problem at a time.]
You don't have to apologize for anything. Especially for locking me up. It was a good idea, and if you hadn't done it then I... I don't know what other kind of stupid things I would have done. [And he'd rather not think about it.]
[Tadokoro has to laugh. Even though he can still pick up Makishima's unease, it feels like they're both falling into their usual, goofy routine when he feels the bony punch to the shoulder. It doesn't really hurt, but it at least makes normalcy feel like it's not too far away.]
I still feel bad for it though. It worked out, but... I won't do it again if I can help it.
[So long as Makishima doesn't get all wonky again. Tadokoro hopes, for all of their sakes, that it doesn't happen again. But he figures he'll keep playing on this to lighten the mood, and just leans in and grins a bit.]
Nah, let's leave that fun part of the imagination for your boyfriend.
[Already, things are going a along a lot better than he'd been expecting, and Makishima starts to feel relieved. So it was that simple. They just needed to apologize and talk, they were right back to their old selves. He still had his teammate and friend, and nothing had changed. Aside from a few awkward memories that he'd have to forget, but of course that wouldn't be a problem.
But then Tadokoro's teasing continues, and just like that, his thoughts escape him and he starts imagining what it would have been like to pin Toudou against the edge of that work counter and wrap his arms around him, or what if Toudou kissed him just like that, or what if Toudou looked at him like he was going to eat him alive. What if he never said no to him after their date and they went home and did a bunch of things and god he really likes the idea wait WHY IS HE GETTING TURNED ON WHY IS HE THINKING ABOUT THIS]
I said stop!! Y-you--! I'm gonna lock you away just to see how you like it if you keep this up!!
[Makishima's face is burning red as he starts to pummel Tadokoro with skinny, weak fists even though he's not actually angry at all, but goddammit don't make him think about things like that in public!]
[As those bony hands keep pummeling at his arm, Tadokoro just finds himself laughing. Getting his friend worked up by teasing him over something silly is a good thing, and it amuses him to know that he can still crack a good jab.]
Okay, okay! Don't lock me up anywhere!
[He'd get restless and break down the door! And he doesn't want to save up door-fixing money.]
[Damn you and your giant indestructible bear body. At least Makishima stops eventually, mostly out of fatigue, and because he knows he's not doing anything other than amusing Tadokoro at the moment. As he rubs his aching hands, he continues to give his friend a displeased frown, but after a while he finds it too hard to stay angry and he actually manages a normal-looking smile for once.]
You probably deserve it anyway. I remember how harsh you were to Onoda. When are you going to get on your knees and beg forgiveness? I want to see it.
[Thank goodness, Makishima. that smile has him grinning a little, although he does rub his arm a little. Even though it didn't hurt, it almost feels like it bruised from sheer constant contact. But when Makishima brings up Onoda, that's when Tadokoro huffs, chest puffed out like a proud young gent.]
I don't even have ta! I apologized to him already; ya missed the whole thing. Kid said he wasn't mad at all!
Of course he wouldn't be. I don't think Onoda understands how to hold grudges. [With any person that'd probably be a bit odd, but for Onoda, it suits him just fine. Makishima would prefer he stay just the way he is.
Though now that he's thinking about Onoda, he's remember all the embarrassing sappy things he did with him. Maki averts his eyes as he scratches his nose.]
He hasn't... told you anything about things I did, has he?
[Onoda is too pure sometimes. It's a little ridiculous, but Tadokoro can accept it with ease, especially reminiscing over how nice and calming their chat had been. But at Makishima's question, Tarokodo rraises an eye, leaning forard a little.]
It's not anything big, it's just... embarrassing. [Like the hundred other events that happened to him recently. But he hast to admit, it isn't as bad as what happened with Tadokoro or even with Toudou so keeping it a secret seems a bit pointless.]
